Have you sometimes wondered why the Christian walk in faith has been so heavy? I have, and I found it a consolation to know that it’s not just my weakness. There is a spiritual fall-out, a type of germ warfare that Satan is carrying out and we are all subject to his attack in one way or another.
There is a flood of occult influences that are creating much havoc, especially among young people. Concerned parents see their children influenced by prevalent electronic demonology such as: heavy metal rock, Dungeons and Dragons, some video games and shows. Now psychic booths are set up in shopping malls and fall fairs. The devil’s attack on faith and morals is another facet of the struggle.
I feel a great urgency and a need to share teachings in this area where an ounce of prevention is worth a ton of cure. The sheep are warning the shepherds, and the voices are those of anguished parents who say: “Why are we not hearing about these things from the pulpit?”
The format for these teachings, which cover the activity of the enemy ranging from ordinary temptation to occult practices, is simple. There is a testimony which starts with the human scene. It is reflected upon with the help of the Holy Spirit and the word of God. There is an invitation to prayer so that the message is internalized and the will strengthened to carry out the Lord’s desire for us.
Those of us who have worked in Latin America are aware of the nature of the enemy’s attack because of the prevalence of cultural witchcraft. We feel we have a contribution to make in the awareness programs that are so badly needed. Pope John Paul II has been affirming the teaching of his predecessor Pope Paul VI. I know that the two questions he asks at the end of the quote are vital. Try to have those questions in mind as you read the testimonies. We tried to keep them in mind in the preparation of the texts.
